5 Crochet Projects to Try for World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day is nearly here! Join this fantastic global movement on Monday 13th November, where millions of people from around the world will partake in acts of generosity and love, from small gestures to big social outreach.

In the apt words of novelist Amelia Barr, ‘Kindness is always fashionable and always welcome’. What better way to contribute to this epic day then use your crochet talents to spread kindness and love to those in your community?

If you’re looking for a little inspiration, here are some of our favourite super kind crochet projects:

Twiddlemuffs

A caring gift for those who have Alzheimers or dementia, Twiddlemuffs are a wonderful crochet project that is perfect for keeping hands and minds occupied and reducing worry and stress levels for patients.

Bright and textured crocheted material is sewn together to create soft and bright textured tubes to keep hands active and cosy. You can even embellish with pom poms, buttons and create fun colour combinations!

Give one to someone in your world or donate to your nearest hospital or send to a local charity. You can visit the Alzheimer’s Society website to find out more about their work and how you can help!

If you’re embarking on your first Twiddlemuff and are not sure where to start, then fear not! We have the perfect video tutorial just for you that will guide you step-by-step! And if you’d like to know more about Twiddlemuffs check out this helpful blog!

Battersea Dog and Cat Patterns

For those who love animals, our collection of patterns in collaboration with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home are a wonderful way to create lovable toys, blankets and gifts that you can give to someone in your world or donate to the charity! And the best 100% of proceeds goes to the animals at the charity, toward helping them find their forever home!

Each pattern has been created lovingly by one of our independent designers and inspired by real-life animals at the home.

This gorgeous amigurumi cat called Hazel was designed by Moji-Moji Design, based on a sweet but very scared kitty who came to the Battersea Dog and Cats home after being hit by a car. The shelter was able to help her get major surgery, but despite the vet’s best efforts sadly they were unable to save her eyesight. Determined to give this brave cat another chance at happiness, this amazing shelter found the perfect indoor home with a loving family! Crochet your very own Hazel or explore the other adorable patterns on offer to be a part of the Battersea story!

Preemie Hats

Designed especially to support premature babies and their families, preemie hats are a wonderful project for beginners, as well as more advanced crocheters. Create the perfect handmade gift using the softest yarn such as Bernat Softee Baby or Paintbox Yarns Baby DK that come in a palette of only the gentlest colours so you can knit one in every shade. This beautiful preemie hat pattern by Kara from Petals and Picots is fantastic to get you started! Gift to a family or why not donate to your local hospital!
