we love pet patterns: crochet patterns for your pets

We love our furry friends more than we love ourselves. This week, we are celebrating the bond that we share with our pets with these crochet pet patterns from our huge pattern library.

1. Pet bed by Anna Nikipirowicz

Every pet needs a bed, so why not crochet this bed? It measures 18.5 inches (47 cm) across, perfect for a cat or a small dog, but could easily be modified to make a larger bed. It’s a simple project with a comfortable result! The designer recommends Rowan Creative Focus Worsted, which is as strong as it is soft.

2. Amigurumi dog toy by Flying Dutchman Crochet

Just like every pet needs a bed, every dog needs a bone. This super simple, personalized bone uses US crochet terms (Confused? Check out our handy conversion table by clicking here). You’ll need some worsted weight yarn like Universal Yarn Classic Worsted, some toy filling, and a G-6 (4 mm) crochet hook.

3. Big ball cat toy by Melissa’s Crochet Patterns

This cat toy measures about 3 inches when finished. You can fill it with a jingle bell or catnip, whichever entertains your feline friend more! Don’t miss out on this free pattern – you’ll need some King Cole Splash DK yarn and a size D (3.25 mm) hook.

4. Romantic dog sweater in Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice

Ooh, another free pattern download! This super sweet sweater has instructions for sizes to fit nearly any dog, and it’s simple enough for a beginner to tackle. It uses Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice yarn, a workhorse yarn that can stand up to whatever Fido gets into!

5. Hampton the Mouse cat toy by Anna Nikipriowicz

We love these little mousies! Perfect for cats everywhere, this pattern includes a detailed picture tutorial and measures about 4 inches long (excluding the tail) when finished. The designer used Rowan All Seasons Cotton, a worsted weight yarn.

6. Pet tie by Anna Nikipirowicz

This free pattern is perfect for dressing up your pets for special occasions. The tie features a pet-safe velcro closure at the back that will release if the tie gets snagged – pet safety is important to this designer! She recommends Rowan Kid Classic for this super simple project.

I’ve never crocheted for my pets before, but started a couple of weeks ago. I have a teeny tiny Australian Shepherd. He was born in a litter of 7 and the others are normal sized. Bean Bunny has hydrocephalus, which has stunted his growth. Other than being tiny he’s perfectly fine! But for the first time in my life I find myself wanting to dress a dog! At 7 weeks he’s still less than 2 lbs! I just crocheted him a red super hero cape with a yellow B on it, and a matching bunny hat! Next I plan on making a top hat…..
