Pantone Color of the Year: Ultra Violet Yarns!

Dramatic, provocative, and thoughtful – Ultra Violet is Pantone’s color of the year! Let’s have a closer look at this vibrant color hero!

pantone purple

Ultra Violet – even the sound of the words summons drama and mystery! Pantone describes Ultra Violet as nuanced and full of emotion, and this rich blue based purple has been used for centuries to signal drama, mystery and excitement!

Historically, purple has always been a powerful color –  the Romans loved it, and hung purple cloth in the birthing chambers of royalty so that it would be the first color a new royal baby would see – to be born into purple was to be born into royalty! It’s a color of expression and non-conformity, of mystery and spirituality, and there are depths and dimensions in the shade that we can use, as crocheters, to combine with other colors or using ultra violet on its own for bold statement accents!

Here are five of the best ultra violet yarn shades!

Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky – Pansy Purple

The Paintbox Yarns palette has three deeper purples and two pale lilacs – all on this beautiful violet spectrum, and all just waiting for your hooks in DK, aran and chunky weight acrylics plus DK and aran weight cottons!

Gründl Wolle Filzwolle uni

Gorgeous Gründl Wolle yarns’ plump purply chunky roving style yarn Filzwolle uni is perfect for oversized sweaters, cushion covers and accessories – and, as the name suggests, it is feltable yarn because of its 100% wool content, so you can create amazing felted accessories with it too!

Lion Brand Wool-Ease Tonals – Amethyst

Lion Brand Tonal

Vibrantly rich, Lion Brand Wool-Ease Tonals is a chunky weight yarn, ideal for sweaters, scarves and hats – it’s a wool and acrylic blend that is washable – I just love this semi-solid violet shade!

Malabrigo Silky – Purple Mystery
