Six amazing projects from our community

This week we want to highlight six projects from you, our makers, that we think are truly amazing. We love seeing you sharing and helping our community grow. Take a look at these great projects for some inspiration, and try some out for yourself!

1. My mother’s wedding cake

What a heartwarming story. Alison L made this amazing crocheted wedding cake for her 82 year old mother’s wedding. Her mother loves owls, and her new beau loves gardening, so she crocheted owls for the bride and groom toppers, and roses as decoration for a truly beautiful cake.

2. Mandala madness CAL “harvest dawn”

Crochet-a-longs are always a fun way to work on a project, and Maggie K’s “harvest dawn” mandala seems like it was no exception. Although she only had baby yarn, (not what the pattern called for) we still think the final product looks great. This looks like quite the large project, but the final result is definitely worth it.

3. Blanket 5

Wow! The colors and pattern of this blanket remind me of the amazing rugs I’ve perused at markets in Morocco or India. Tracy B has done a fantastic job on this blanket, and the combination of orange and blues is one of my favorite color combos.

4. Pina colada bag

I can’t imagine a better beach vacation bag than this pina colada bag by Kath Weber. Not only does the shape look like a pineapple, but the puff stitch actually makes the texture of the bag look like the skin of a pineapple. Super creative and functional as well, this bag is sure to be a conversation starter.

5. Victorian lace parasol

This ornate parasol was made by Barbara H for the Perth Royal Show in western Australia, and I’m sure it was a big hit there. Although it won’t block out much sun, and certainly not good in the rain, this parasol is a beautiful project that certainly looks impressive.

6. Rapunzel

What better way to end this list than with a cute little Rapunzel doll? Made by Lisa Maree, this doll would make a great toy for a child, but would look great sitting on a shelf in a nursery as well. The long blonde hair could even be an excellent way to teach a young one how to practice braiding hair!

Hi Eric. It was lovely to see my Mothers cake chosen out of so many fantastic makes. I told my Mum and she was delighted too. She keeps the little owls next to the photo of herself and her new husband, as a treasured momento. I really love the Rapunzel doll too, my favourite fairy tale character. I was very interested in the way the hair had been created, very textural. Alison 🙂
