Mother’s Day gifts and treats!

Mothering is special. Whether you are lucky enough to have your mother with you, a magnificent mother in law, an awesome aunty, favourite family friend or gorgeous grandmother – Mothering Sunday on 6th March is the day to show them you love them.

What is more thoughtful than a handmade gift?  When our children are little, they paint and draw us pictures, and make necklaces out of pasta – and the effort and love that goes into them makes them so precious.  The same is true of presents we make for our mothers, and the people we love as mothers! The fabulous thing about crochet, is that it’s fast!  Here are some beautiful gifts you can make in a week!

Mother's Day Crochet - Baked Milk

Baked Milk by Katia Novikova is a beautiful shawl that you can make up in 4ply or DK yarn. The construction is suitable for beginners – and it’s a beautiful gift to give and wear.

Mother's Day Crochet - Tapestry Stitch Bag

This Tapestry Stitch Bag by Chabepatterns is quick to make and you can embellish with anything you like!  The pattern is very comprehensive, and although here illustrated made up in macrame cord you could make this bag in any strong yarn, double stranded.  Cotton would be great!

Crochet a pair of Rosie Mitts by Pink Milk Crochet!  These are such fun to make – wrap them up in tissue paper and put a big bow on them!  The little roses are embroidered afterwards, and there are charts and full instructions in the pattern. Another Pink Milk pattern I love, is the Neopolitan Cushion, and it’s made up here with chunky yarn (Lang Yarns Merino 70, but any chunky yarn will do!) and you can tweak the colourscheme to suit the receipient’s decor!

With a week to go – a scarf will work up quickly, and Agrarian Artisan‘s March Scarf is quite the ticket!  The semi-solid shade here is gorgeous – and this scarf needs 4ply yarn, and would look stunning in a variegated yarn like Manos del Uruguay Alegria, or one of the stunning Fyberspates Vicacious 4ply shades!

If your mother (or mother-in-law, or aunty, grandma, family friend) is a crocheter, why not buy them some beautiful new hooks?  This Knit Pro Symfonie Crochet Hook Set contains includes 5 crochet hooks in the most popular sizes – 3.5mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, 6.0mm and 8.0,mm.

She might like to be inspired by a new crochet book….  Anna Nikipirowicz’s little book of Crocheted Purses is a sweet collection of little projects!

Thank you Merion, You have provided some nice ideas. I remember when I was a child I used to prepare breakfast for my mother on the mothers’ day. Later I started presenting her gifts like mobile, a dress, some cosmetics etc. But this time I am planing to do something different like doing a small DIY project for my mother. May be making a gift basket or a ribbon wreath or a paper gift bag.

You must be thinking why not I am giving another gift like mobile or a clutch that I used to give earlier. The reason is very simple I want to do something different for my mother so I started searching for some ideas when I came across this article http://blog.papermart.com/top-8-diy-spring-projects-moms-kids/ and I thought this is it and this is what I want to do.

I am going to surprise my mother this mothers’ day.
