Crochet for curvy girls!

Merion is not keen on the term, “plus size” but there is plenty of gorgeous crochet designed to flatter fuller figures!

Are you the proud owner of a rounded body? Do you have curves?  If the answer to these questions is yes, then you’ll be thrilled to hear that we have a wonderful range of crochet patterns to flatter your shape!  It’s infuriating not to be able to find clothes to flatter and fit, but the great benefit of crochet and making your own clothes means you can create your own uniquely beautiful wardrobe to fit!

Madison Vest by Sincerely Pam

This fabulous vest by Sincerely Pam is perfect for any season!  It will work up super fast and it’s perfect for any body shape!  Customise the length to suit you, and make up in any worsted or aran weight yarn with a 5.5m hook.  I’d love one of these in Debbie Bliss’ gorgeous Blue Faced Leicester Aran – one of my favourite yarns, in over 20 shades!

V-Stitch Cardi by Nicole Wang

Waterfall-tastic!  Flattering and cosy at the same time – this waterfall cardi is crocheted in super speedy V-stitch with worsted or aran weight yarn, so it will work up quickly!

The pattern includes sizes: XS/S / 47″ (119.5 cm), M / 50″ (127 cm), L / 53″ (134.5 cm ), XL / 56″ (142 cm), 2XL/59″ (150 cm) and the back length is  31″ (78.5 cm).   This would be an absolutely gorgeous cardi coat going into spring – crochet it in wool, or acrylic blend – and then make one up in a cotton or linen yarn for the warm weather! (Editor’s tip: I absolutely love Crystal Palace Danube Aran – a beautiful variegated yarn that’s fantastic value in the sale!)

This fabulous hooded cardi is made up here in a cotton blend, but you could make it up in any sport weight yarn that drapes well.  Fabulous for layering!  It comes in sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL (33, 36¼, 39¼, 46, 49, 52¼) and I love the sleeves, the fluted drape is so elegant!

Marly Bird is a celebrity in the crochet world, so it’s no surprise that her beautiful patterns are sized to fit so brilliantly.  This Capricious Cardigan pattern includes sizes S M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, to fit bust 33, 37, 41, 45, 49, 53  (84 (94, 104, 114.5, 124.5, 134.5 cm) and the fronts overlap 3.5 inches and that number is not included in the finished bust measurement.   I love this cardi – you can use it for layering or make it up for warm weather in something light – it’s flattering to all body shapes!  It’s crocheted in sport weight yarn, and I would love it made up in gorgeous MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino, or the brilliant Schachenmayer Catania Denim, perfect semi-solid shades that will be super cool for summer!

Airy Blocks Ribbed Crochet Shrug by Nicole Wang

Airy Blocks Crochet Shrug by Nicole Wang on the LoveCrochet blog

I am not going to apologise for including two patterns from the fabulous Nicole Wang!  This is a gorgeous shrug with a fun pattern to work plus some ribbing creating super shape!  This is one of those fab jacket-coat-cardi garments that you can grab and go – it’ll work fabulously with jeans or over a dress for work!  Crocheted in aran or worsted weight yarn, it’ll work up quickly and the pattern includes three sizes for S/M, L/XL AND 2XL/3XL in three lengths.   I would imagine there is a fair amount of positive ease factored into this pattern, because it’s designed to drape.  Nicole recommends using Red Heart Soft yarn – but any aran or worsted weight yarn will work beautifully! You will need approximately 950 – 1100 yards, working on 5 and 6mm hooks.

Celebrate those curves with crochet and craft yourself something beautiful today!
