Free Easter basket crochet pattern
Easter comes early this year, don’t be caught unprepared! This free Easter basket crochet pattern will have you ready in no time.
I love Easter for two reasons: spring flowers, and chocolate. Let me add a third reason: dyeing eggs. There’s nothing you can’t accomplish with some vinegar and food coloring.
A couple weeks ago, when I was reviewing cotton spring yarns over on the LoveKnitting blog, I was struck by how perfect the Plymouth Fantasy Naturale was for a basket. It’s 100% cotton with a rope like texture that gives it the stability a basket needs to survive the challenges of a competitive egg hunt.

To start, make a magic ring with 10 stitches. If you don’t know how to make a magic ring, you can chain 4 to make a ring, and then do 10 single crochet (UK double crochet) stitches into the ring.
On round three, *1 sc, 2 sc into next stitch* repeat between ** until the end.
Round 4: *2 sc, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat until the end of round.
Round 5: *3 sc, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat until the end of round.
Round 7: *5 sc, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat until end of round.
Round 8: *6 sc, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat until end of round.
Rounds 14 – 20: Half double crochet (UK half trebel crochet) into each stitch around.
Rounds 21 and 22: Single crochet into each stitch around.
If you want a handle for your basket (rather than the kind that just sits on the table), Carry on from the end of the last round by crocheting a single crochet into the next four stitches.
