Editor’s Inspiration: tartan cushion crochet pattern
January is cold, and February isn’t much better. Cozy up your home with this tartan cushion crochet pattern by Little Doolally!
Hygge is a Danish term that literally translates to “Well-being,” and is pronounced like HYU-gah (for those of us not well-versed in Danish). Like many words, Hygge has evolved to mean something like cozy togetherness. Denmark has the highest happiness quotient in the United Nations, and some attribute this to their penchant for Hygge, creating cozy homes even when you live in a country where it’s not unusual for the sun to start setting in mid-afternoon.
Like many people, I “nest” when the winter comes around. Throw pillows, blankets, new coverlets and duvets, I go whole hog when it comes to creating a cozy home. Given the opportunity, I would exist under a pile of crocheted blankets, on a bed of extra pillows, with a book, a cup of tea, and my crochet. Doesn’t that sound like bliss?
This throw pattern by Little Doolally is a perfect fit for my house – with my Celtic roots (from way back when), tartan patterns are something that make a great accent for a living space. This pattern is created using the overlaid stitch, which is described in detail within the pattern. Little Doolally has included a step by step photo tutorial of this stitch, as well as in-depth descriptions of all the techniques involved in making this cushion. Boring couch cushions beware – this tartan cushion crochet pattern is here to make your living room Hygge!
For this cushion, I want to use GGH Wollywasch – it’s a German yarn that I am obsessed with. It’s 100% wool, DK weight, and machine washable on the gentle cycle. Super soft and available in a huge number of shades, you can make a tartan to match any living room or family crest. I’ll be making mine in blues and greens, to match my bedroom decor.
I’ll be snuggling up in my Hygge bedroom before I know it – and I can’t wait!
Do you have a Hygge home? Does it need a tartan cushion crochet pattern to spice it up?
