Super Modern Crochet with Frank & Olive!

Modern, oversized and full of colour – get your hooks into our favourite Frank & Olive patterns!

Once in a while, a designer comes along with something really different… take a look at Frank & Olive, the design brand created by designer Ruby McGrath. Oversized jumpers, brightly coloured kids clothes and a modern take on the humble granny square make Frank & Olive patterns refreshingly different and so popular with our crocheters!

Oversized Cardigan

Can you beat the joy of an oversized cardigan? I think not! I have seen this fabulous cardi made up, and it’s every bit as fabulous as it looks in the photo above. You’ll need a chunky weight yarn and to keep this affordable you can make it up in brilliant Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky and choose from 60 shades!

Oversized Jumper

If you prefer a jumper, here’s a gorgeously sloppy oversized jumper that will work wonderfully under layers to keep you warm, or will keep you cool without! Effortlessly stylish with a simple box shape, you’ll want to crochet one for every day of the week! This pattern is sized UK 8-16 and for curvier ladies sizes UK 16-22, there is a larger version here.

Peplum Cardigan

Frank & Olive Peplum Cardi

The sweetest cardigan ever! I love this little peplum cardi – it comes in three sizes, 2-3, 4-5 and 6-7, and the colour blocking is entirely up to you! It crochets in an aran weight yarn, and you can play with the colour work to your heart’s delight!

Pompom slippers

These easy peasy slippers can be made in a couple of hours and are the sweetest gift! You can use any super chunky yarn – these are crocheted in Rowan Big Wool, and you’ll only need one ball (80m) and some faux fur pom poms!

Luxury Tweed Blanket

A crocheted blanket full of smiling sunflowers is a delight at the best of times, but when it’s made of Debbie Bliss Luxury Tweed Aran there’s an extra depth and hardiness to it – a blanket that will last forever! The colours in this beautiful yarn range are extra vibrant, and the 100% wool will keep you very warm! If you love the motif but you don’t fancy tweed, you can make this beautiful blanket in your favourite aran yarn!

Oversized Granny Square Jumper

Bringing the fabulous elements of 1970s crochet into modern fashion is all about reworking older motifs and shapes – I love the way Ruby has styled these giant granny squares with super chunky yarn into a tunic length jumper!

Rug pattern

A pretty petal shaped rug is perfect for little miss’ bedroom – but also so sweet for bathrooms! This one is hooked in Hoooked Zpagetti Solids, so you can pop it straight in the washing machine if there’s a spillage!

Whether you love kidswear, ladieswear or homeware patterns, the brand has an iconic modern style!

I bought the Frank & Olive tassel clutch pattern. I was disappointed that it does not seem to include inserting a zipper or any way to close up the top of the clutch. I was also expecting it to have optional directions for adding a strap. It is a very attractive design but not what I expected. 🙁

I could have done this much without the pattern.
