Crochet Jacket with Tartan borders by Ruth Maddock

Crochet Jacket with Tartan borders by Ruth Maddock

Gone are the days when crochet was banished to granny’s doilies and table runners – garment design is at the forefront of designers’ creativity, and we love it! With crochet we can create so many different beautiful textures, from the finest 4ply and lace weight drape to cosy super chunky cardies – there’s no limit to the variations you can create with any yarn.  It’s certainly faster to crochet a cardi than knit one – and as we head into January and February on this side of the earth, we need cardigans more than ever!

Pictured above is the fabulous Crochet Jacket with Tartan borders by Ruth Maddock – I just love the use of chunky yarn and colour here! The tartan is created by working the red and grey and adding the blue/green chain stitch with a tapestry needle afterwards.

Clover Field Cardigan by Patrick Zein

Patrick Zein has created some fantastic jumpers for men, and this ladies’ cardi is one of my favourites too – perfect for layering in the cold and a pretty pointelle style lace pattern adds to the charm. Bang on trend with those blouson sleeves and classic enough to stay a wardrobe staple for years to come!

You can tell a Kat Goldin pattern at a glance – this super talented designer not only creates the most sublime patterns, but photographs them beautifully too!  Kat is one half of the super talented duo, The Crochet Project, with partner in crochet, Joanne Scrace. If you fancy a quick but challenging project, this is it! Worked up fast in super chunky weight yarn, it’s a great opportunity to try crochet cabling, which, once you’ve got the hang of it, fast becomes an addiction! You’ll be adding cables to everything! This cardi is a perfect addition to a winter wardrobe – the only downside is that everyone will be asking you to make them one!

Elisa Vest by Annalies Baes

Annalies Baes’ patterns are so exciting to create – from shawls and blankets, to cardigans and beautiful hats and childrenswear. This gorgeous jacket is perfect as a warm cover up, and the pattern comes in four sizes. It works up fast in aran weight yarn – Annalies specifies Cascade Eco+, which sits somewhere between an aran and chunky weight, on a 5-6mm hook, and comes in a rainbow of shades that are perfect for winter whether you love brights and jewels, or natural shades.

These cardies are lovely, has got my fingers itching to transform a stash of chunky wool into a lovely costal fog Cardiff, if I rambert correctly it’s a fog sort of colour too !

Gosh , there are a few typos in my comment above – apologies , Hope I don’t make as many mistakes whilst crocheting !!
