5 FREE Project Ideas for Last-Minute Gifts!

When we need to rustle up a gift at short notice, we need some fast-to-make pattern inspiration! Merion has found five fabulous patterns you can whisk up in no time!

It’s amazing how fast you can crochet when you need to make a gift in a short space of time! For me, something homemade always beats shop-bought, and so I try to make a gift if I can … although I nearly always leave it to the last minute! So, here are five patterns that you can make in a hurry and be proud to give as a heartfelt gift!

1. One Skein Cowl by Amy A

One skein cowl

Amy A’s fabulous One Skein Cowl is the perfect one-skein-one-evening project that would be greatly received! This cowl lends itself beautifully to variegated yarn, either a multi colour way like the yarn pictured above (Malabrigo Worsted) or a self striping affordable yarn like Red Heart Unforgettable.

2. Popcorn Cushion by Paintbox Yarns

I adore this fabulous design by Redagape for Paintbox Yarns, and I’ve made it several times! It’s a super fast make, and because it is so popular, I always keep two or three round cushion inserts tucked away just in case I’m going to make a last minute gift! It works up very fast in Paintbox Yarns Super Chunky, and you’ll only need three balls, making it a very affordable gift indeed!

3. Adult Chunky Slippers by Jennifer D

Everybody loves slippers! These darling slippers make up swiftly in chunky yarn (or in two strands of aran weight yarn held together), and the pattern comes in three widths – regular, wide and extra-wide: the length is calculated by length of foot, and if you’re making these for someone you know well, the chances are you will know the approximate size of their feet!

4. Amigurumi Pinky Baby Lamb by Jennytedddy

Amigurumi lamb

Just look at this sweet little lamb! You can use your stash for this little darling, and it would make a gorgeous baby gift, or a new friend for a little one! Standing 4.5″ tall, this cute poppet is perfect for little hands to hold!

5. Merry Christmas Mitts by Hannah Cross

Designed expressly for the purpose of gifting, these Merry Christmas Mitts are a perfect stocking filler or last minute make! Gorgeously cosy with a snug ribbed wrist, and textured glove, these can be made swiftly from any DK yarn you have in your stash!
