One ball wonder: Noro Silk Garden yarn

Emma Friedlander-Collins, mastermind behind Steel&Stitch is back on the LoveCrochet blog talking about the wonders of Just One ball of yarn, Noro Silk Garden….

Anyone with even the mildest form of yarn addiction will be guilty of buying Just One beautiful ball or skein of yarn that they have no-idea-what-they’ll-use-it-for-but-have-to-have-it. I have a very severe addiction so I have lots of Just Ones. I am also terribly lazy, and the idea of sitting down to make a whole jumper that could take weeks just doesn’t appeal at all.

Luckily, yesterday evening, I struck on a solution. Having arrived back from a gorgeous vacation, a very beautiful ball of silk mix yarn was waiting for me, Noro Silk Garden 4-Ply. Whilst on said hols, I visited an amazing museum with some very beautiful ancient Egyptian artefacts, and among them were a number of golden yokes, designed to be draped over the shoulders of a Pharoah. Rather than having to make a whole jumper, why not just make a yoke? I don’t have enough gold lying around to make one, but I certainly have enough yarn, in fact one ball of silk mix yarn is ideal.

Being of a generally crafty nature, I merrily set to with scissors and a slightly dreary t-shirt and hacked off the existing yoke. Now all that needs to happen is a little row of woolly stitches sewn around the edge of the hacked hole, and the new, crocheted yoke can be stitched in to place.

Another extremely pleasing thing is that the Noro yarn is in the same colours as the buddleia and gladioli that were blossoming everywhere on holiday. So not only will my finally finished tee remind me of the sites we saw while away, but the colours and scents too.

I think this top may be a perfect excuse to get using the ‘Community’ feature on the LoveCrochet website. I hadn’t tried it before, but I think it’s so nice to be able to share the process of the make with everyone and be able to chat about it with people, so it seems an ideal time to start. Look how positive buying Just One has been, clearly I shall have to do it again…
